Last night, while working to make a few interior panel templates for my track-car, I sliced the shit out of my left thumb.  I managed to find a small shard of glass hiding out in some sticky stuff near the some of the window molding.  Didn't really hurt much but the blood...oh god the blood!  After 37 years of floating around on this rock you'd think I'd be used to the fact that fingers bleed like crazy but nope...Not so much.

Anyway...this is where I got do before I stalked off to care for my slice up paw...

I'll pretty good fit on the template for just 10 minutes of work.  Still need to do a bit of trimming and box out the the wheel well, then I can transfer this to much more durable card-board making two mirrored version, one for the right and one for the left.  The one on the left will probably need a bit more adjustment in pattern, though.

Right...What's a Chairman?

Over the weekend, at Frolic, I was reminded how much being the chairman for a large fan convention goes beyond the scope of a full time job to boarder on the edge of madness as almost a lifestyle.  Almost anywhere I go I can expect people to want to talk shop about the convention in one capacity or another which is totally cool, this is part of what I signed up for.  What I find I end up doing a lot of, though, is explaining just what it is that I do--and to a degree what any con chairman does--with regard to an event like Further Confusion.

For the grins and giggles of it, I decided that it would be interesting to throw together a few slides to outline what my role as Chairman of Further Confusion is really all about.  Well, "a few slides" turned out to be seven.  It's kind of nice having a quick little presentation I can pull up on my phone any time somebody asks me what it is that I do.  Or geeky.  Or maybe a little sad.  Probably a mix of all three, honestly. :)

My Fleet's Fuel Consumption...

These current mileage charts for the three motor vehicles in my life.

I'm averaging 40MPG with the motorcycle, 25 MPG with the Passat and the 325is is getting about 20 MPG.  Over the last 13511 I've used 551.23 gallons of 91 octane fuel for an average fleet fuel economy of 24.5 MPG.  The Passat is by far the workhorse of the fleet having chalked up ~65% of all miles during this period.

Weirdly, I track fuel economy on each of my vehicles for different for slightly different reasons but the common theme between the three is diagnostic, helping to identify when things are starting to go wrong.  It's also nice to have data to play "what if" games with when trying to decide what a good replacement for my daily driver (the Passat) would be.

And...well...there's also the giggle factor of seeing the dramatic mileage dip incurred by a track day.
